Corpus Christi Mini Vacation

Yesterday, I worked to Corpus Christi and took my family with me. Besides the hotel, the highlight was definitely the Texas Aquarium. Even the entrance was cool. Water rained down on the arches and you could look up and see it hitting top while walking in. Kind-of loud, though.
At the dolphin tank, we went below to have a totally different view. The dolphins played with balls and other toys while we looked on.

Corpus Christi Mini Vacation Continued

The Texas Aquarium has a nice playground geared for ages up to 12.
There were many places to climb and be silly.
Joel found a nice place to rest in the shade of a palm tree while the kids played.
Jacob found a beloved piece of bark. This photo makes me laugh out loud because it reminds me of American Gothic.
The Omni Hotel treated my children like VIPs. When we checked in, the hotel staff gave them a little backpack filled with great toys. Milk and cookies were sent up that night, too.

Handsome

Jacob sang in church last Sunday and looked so handsome doing it. He doesn't dress up much. Seeing him look so nice reminds me that I need to buy him dressier "church" clothes.

Outside Movie Night

My creative husband came up with a movie night for the neighborhood in our cul de sac. It was so fun.
He handed out flyers earlier in the week inviting all our neighbors to see "Monsters Vs. Aliens". That day, it took just a little while to set it all up.
We estimate about 60 people showed up.Sara sat through most of the movie with her popcorn and juice.

Jacab and his friend Elliott thought it was really cool to sit outside and watch a movie.

Little Visitor

A couple of weeks ago, we had this little visitor on our front porch.
When I tried to shoo it away with a mop handle, it curled up and struck at it. Even though it was small, it seemed aggressive and I didn't feel comfortable having it close to the house. My neighbor confirmed what I thought. It was a baby copperhead. Ugh.

Now It's Sara's Turn...

Sara had her first day of Mother's Day Out for this school year. She was very excited to take the frog nap mat-it just made her day even more fun.

Little did we know that Sara has a doppleganger and her name is McKinley. And they wore the same skirt for their first day of school. And I know her mom from Mops.
Mrs. Sharon Graves is her teacher this year and this is also the first time she has her friend Sam Parikh in class with her. It's going to be a great year!

Sara's "new" bed

Because Sara figured out how to climb out of her crib, we decided to tranform it into a toddler bed. She has been so good and hasn't gotten out even once. She loves to sit and read after she wakes up.

This morning, Jacob wanted to get his little sister up before church. I caught him reading to her.

They pay me for this!

Here I am at work on an airplane with my crewmembers.

...and he kicked preschool to the curb.

Today was Jacob's first day of Kindergarten. Big day.

At his table, he got to sit with good friends Carson and Hudson. They opened up their supply boxes and got to work.

Jacob seemed excited for his first day.

Notice Sara is fitting right in taking her brother's crayon. Some things stay the same.

Jeanne Brandenburg is going to make Jacob's kindergarten year so memorable!

More friends!

The Nykoruk's came and visited, too. We went to Galveston and had a ton of fun.
Dakota and Sara explored in the warm water.

Here are all the kids. I had to be in the picture because Sara was feeling a little like she didn't want anyone to sit with her except for me.

Visiting friends

The Mull's came to visit after moving to St. Louis over a year ago. They are dear friends of ours and we have missed them. It was a wonderful reunion.
These two hit the ground running and had a wonderful time together.
Hailey was still a baby when they left. She and Sara got along well considering they are both toddlers and the center of their own universes.

Jacob is a good big brother and played ring-around-the-rosy with them. Look how Hailey is looking at him all smiley.

California Vacation

This last week, our family had the opportunity to go to Riverside, CA. Joel's Uncle Les passed away and we went up for the memorial and funeral. Even though it was a sad reason for the trip, we decided to stay for a week and let our children get to know their cousins. We stayed at Nick and Audry's beautiful house. Jacob and Sara enjoyed their pool as much as possible.

Jacob liked to go behind one of the cool waterfalls.

Crystal Cove Beach

On Friday, we went to Crystal Cove Beach and had a blast. Thank goodness for SPF75!

Audry knew all the things we needed to bring to make the beach perfect-including a tent for shade. This is some of the adult cousins catching up with each other:Audry, Joel, Lori, and Connie with Sara in the foreground.

August, Sara and Tony making sand castles. Nobody really entered the water because it was very cold.

Jacob and Joel out by the water.

Tide Pools at the Beach

About a five minute walk down the beach were some tide pools that we all explored. We found sea anemones, crabs, and other creatures. It was a fun lesson discovering God's creatures.

Family photo op at the beach.

Nice!

Sara found joy in brushing sand off of our feet.

Sara and her Pa-Paw

I love to see Sara and Paul together. She acts like he hung the moon just for her. And with Sara being the only granddaughter, I feel there is a special connection between them.

He is showing her all the interesting sounds from the keyboard.

Cousins

With this trip to California, Jacob and Sara finally got to meet some of their cousins.

At least they know how to act sometimes...see!

Playing Golf

We had a chance to play some golf while in California. It is a beautiful course.

Two.

Sara turned 2 on June 11.

The Lord has blessed us with two amazing children. All I know is time is speeding up and it is all going by way too fast.
